take great notes in class.
- Highlight the key point. It's pointless to fill in the extraneous detail if you're missing the overall concept of the lecture.
- Take the notes you can't get elsewhere. If your professor is posting the PowerPoint online later, save yourself from hand cramps, and write down the other stuff he or she mentions.
- Get creative. Drawing charts and doodling pictures that coincide with the lesson is a great way to remember key concepts.

- Communication is key. It can be really easy to get passive aggressive and leave notes or give the silent treatment, but ignoring the problem won't clean those dishes.
- Try to look at it from their point of view. Empathy gives you the ability to look at the issue from another's shoes. Take note of the things going on in your roommate's life, be patient, and use discernment as you approach problems.
- Pray. Praying for someone is an easy way to dispel chilly feelings if you and your roommate aren't getting along. And who knows, you two might become fast friends!

- Engage and ask questions. The more you participate in class and engage with the material being taught, the more you'll have the ability to pick your professor's brain.
- Take advantage of department celebrations. Many academic departments at colleges and universities have get-togethers and outings hosted by professors. Make sure to attend!
- Set up an appointment. Professors usually post their office hours, so if you have questions or need advice, sign up and connect about what you're working through.
practice healthy habits at college.
- Get to bed at a decent time. Gone is your normal curfew, and there are no parents to tell you to head to bed. Set yourself up for success and don't stay out too late. If you do, you'll regret it during that 7:00 a.m. class the next day.
- Practice good nutrition. It can also be easy to fill up on junk food and spend all your cafeteria money on sweet and salty options. Make sure to get the right amount of protein, veggies, and fruit, too!
- Exercise. Besides getting you in physical shape, exercise staves off emotional stress and anxiety as well. Take a jog around campus or lift weights at the gym. Join a dance class or an intermural sport!
