Overview
The Baptist denomination is believed to have started in the early to mid-1600s in England, though there are some who argue that they can be traced all the way back to John the Baptist. Today, the Baptist denomination makes up one of the largest denominations in the world, with over 100 million members worldwide. Within the Baptist denomination umbrella, there are over 200 different associations, conventions, and fellowships. The Southern Baptist Convention (one of the largest Baptist associations) alone are made up of nearly 47,000 churches, most in the US. Currently, there are over 60 Colleges in the United States associated with the Baptist denomination.
