Why Louisiana?

Known for Cajun cuisine, jazz music, mossy bayous, and Mardi Gras celebrations each spring, Louisiana is located along the Gulf of Mexico, resulting in a subtropical climate. Winters are short and mild with very occasional dustings of snow; summers are hot and humid. Precipitation in the form of rain is abundant year-round. The largest city is Louisiana is New Orleans where you’ll find Jackson Square, a national historic landmark famous as the park where the Louisiana Purchase was signed into existence. Quaint and idyllic, Jackson Square is home to a famous statue of seventh U.S. president Andrew Jackson on horseback, as well as live music, street artists, vendors, the Saint Louis Cathedral, and horse-drawn carriage rides. Cities like Lafayette and Baton Rouge offer plenty of history and culture, as well. You can still tour numerous 18th century plantations. Of if you prefer outdoor recreation, visit one of the state’s 20-some state parks for a day of boating, fishing, biking, windsurfing, or swimming. The state is replete with distinctive geography: lagoons, sand dunes, barrier islands, and nearly 400 miles of coastline to explore.
