Why Michigan?

Michigan is famous for automobiles and the Great Lakes! In fact, the state itself is essentially two peninsulas which are primarily bordered by four of the five Great Lakes, creating plenty of beautiful coastline. All this water brings humidity and lots of snow (over 60 inches annually)! Temperatures, however, are surprisingly moderate and residents enjoy four distinct seasons. If you enjoy outdoor activity, adventure awaits you in one of the many state parks or in Isle Royale National Park, a car-free island where you can bike, hike, canoe, kayak or camp. Michigan is known as the “lighthouse capital of the world” so while you’re exploring, check out a famous lighthouse or two, or take a ferry to Mackinac Island and visit the cute shops, restaurants and historic sites. If you’re more excited by city life, Detroit offers lots to do, including a number of professional sports teams, making Michigan an all-around attractive college destination!
