Why Mississippi?

Known as the birthplace of Elvis Presley and American blues music, Mississippi boasts a humid, subtropical climate with long, hot summers and temperate winters. The state receives plenty of rainfall each year, but only one inch of snow annually, compared to the national average of 28 inches. It’s a state full of natural beauty and geographic diversity--fertile plains, forested Appalachian foothills and a coastal region of bayous and sandy beaches which spans 180 miles of the Gulf of Mexico which is part of the state’s southern border. Fun places to visit in Mississippi include multiple civil war battlefields and memorials, the southeast’s only petrified forest, Biloxi Beach, and the barrier islands along the Mississippi sound. Additionally, there are approximately 20 state parks which create space for recreational activities such as fishing, canoeing, biking, rock climbing, camping, hiking, and kayaking. In addition, Jackson, Mississippi, the state’s largest city capital, allows enjoyment of an abundance of cultural attractions, museums, zoos, and restaurants.
