Why Nebraska?
Nebraska is home to several historical landmarks, charming towns, and plenty of exciting activities. Nebraska is well known for its part of the Oregon trail, used by early pioneers making their way across the United States. Fans of US history can marvel at the rugged and distinct features of Chimney Rock, Scott’s Bluff, and Courthouse and Jail Rocks. These impressive geological structures offer the same awe today as they did to the travelers back then, and, for outdoorsy people, are open for hiking. Nebraska also offers dedicated sites for history dating much further back with the Ashfall and Agate Fossil Beds. Here, you can view the unearthed fossils of extinct mammals that were native to the area long ago, ask the paleontologists questions about their work and the animal remains they unearthed, and go hiking on the outdoor trails to see some of the dig sites and surrounding area of the fossil beds.

Agate Fossil Bed also showcases American Indian artifacts from the Lakota tribe, giving visitors a glimpse into their culture and explaining their history in the area. Another interesting attraction that calls Nebraska home is Carhenge, a replica of the famous Stonehenge made entirely of cars. Carhenge is accompanied by a few other car sculptures and all of them are free to visit. Nebraska is not known for its “big city life,” instead valuing the simplicity and allure of small towns, like Gering, McCook, and Seward.
