Newport Rhode Island is also a popular destination, with more of a small and idyllic coastal city vibe to it. Newport boasts of some of the best beaches in the state and the famous Newport Cliff Walks, a 3.5-mile beach-side pathway overlooking the rocky shore. Despite its smaller size as a city, Newport is home to some of the most opulent and grand mansions, many of which are now owned by The Preservation Society of Newport and are available for tours, events, and even weddings. Fans of art and architecture will be blown away by these near-castles hidden in Rhode Island. The climate in Rhode Island resembles many coastal Northeast states, with hot and humid summers that are ideal for beach activities, and cold and very snowy winters, sometimes getting more than 50” of snow in a season.
