The Reformed Denomination began under the influence of Calvinism in Europe. Dutch and German settlers were the primary founders of the Reformed denomination in the United States, with churches being established in the 1600’s in New York (then New Amsterdam), in the 1700’s in Pennsylvania and Virginia, and in the 1800’s in Michigan. Today, the groups that make up the reformed denomination have a combined population of around 280,000 members, and over 1600 churches in the United States. Currently, there are only a few colleges associated with the Reformed Denomination.
