Though not literally considered a denomination, the Churches of Christ are a distinct group of congregations with a commitment to similar beliefs and interpretations of the Bible. The Churches of Christ emerged from a series of movements spanning the late 1700s to the early 1900s. Many adherents affirm that the movements that took place were merely a call to return to the New Testament design for Churches, thus not truly the beginning, but a re-organization. Today, the Churches of Christ have around 3 million adherents worldwide, with 1.3 million adherents and around 13,000 congregations in the United States. There are over 15 college and universities currently associated with the Churches of Christ.
